A week of prayer for your local MP

Will you join us in a week of prayer for our local MPs?

The House of Commons resumes on Sept. 21, 2026, after the summer recess. We have a prayer for each day in the week leading up to Sept. 21 that you could use in your personal time of prayer, in small groups or congregations.

Let's ask God to bless our local MPs and our country.

Consider sending your MP a note to thank them for their service to the community and let them know you're praying for them.

Let’s pray for our local MPs by name. You can use your postal code to find your MP’s name and contact information, ourcommons.ca/members.

Day 1 (Sept 14): Blessing

Father in heaven, in your mercy, out of your abundant grace, I pray that you would bless and keep my MP. I pray that you would make your face shine upon my MP and that you would be gracious to them. I pray that you would turn your face toward my MP and give them peace. (Numbers 6:24-26)

Day 2 (Sept 15): Rest

God, our shepherd, I pray that you would provide rest for my MP, that you would refresh their soul. I pray that you would lead them beside quiet waters and to lie down in green pastures. I pray for peace of mind, heart and soul. (Psalm 23:1-2)

Day 3 (Sept 16): Wisdom

Lord of heaven and earth, I pray that you would give my MP wisdom from above that is peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy, impartial and sincere. I ask that you would give my MP discernment, sound judgment and wise advisors. I pray that my MP would understand righteousness and justice, every good path. I pray that my MP would be led into right paths for your name’s sake. (James 3:17-18)

Day 4 (Sept 17): Justice and compassion

Light of the World, I pray my MP would pursue justice and compassion. As MPs vote this fall, I pray that you would give them insight and courage to stop the expansion of MAiD for mental illness that will take effect in six months, on March 17, 2027. I pray that their legacy instead would be to provide help and support to those suffering with mental illness. I pray that my MP would protect and preserve the lives of people in vulnerable circumstances.

Day 5 (Sept 18): Flourishing

Lord Jesus, I pray for physical, emotional and spiritual strength for my MP. I pray for physical health and safety, as well as emotional resilience and good mental health as my MP faces stressful situations and complex decisions. I pray that my MP would cast their burdens on you because you care for them. (Psalm 115:14-15)

Day 6 (Sept 19): Relationships

Father in heaven, I pray for the family and close friends of my MP. I pray that they would love and support one another. I pray for close bonds that endure the separation of time serving in Ottawa. I pray for unity, strength and grace in these relationships. I pray that you would strengthen, encourage, protect and bless my MP in every season.

Day 7 (Sept 20): Integrity and strength

Lord Jesus, I intercede on our MP’s behalf. I pray for my MP to know your goodness, grace, blessing and provision. I thank you for their service to our country. I pray that you would grant my MP wisdom, integrity, humility and strength. I pray that my MP would promote peace, good government and the common good. (1 Timothy 2:1-2)
